Belmont News Souvenir Issue to Be Published Provincewide

Belmont News and Manitoba Community Newspaper Association announce a July 23 1986 souvenir issue. M C N A will sell ads write features and produce the paper at no cost to Ralph and Alice MacFarlane. The issue will highlight Belmont Ninette Fair Belmont Senior Baseball and feature articles by Manitoba staff and Fred McGuinness.

Golden Age Group Meeting Features May Births and May Tunes

Arrow River Hall hosted the Golden Age group on Wednesday May 21. The Old Village Choir of Virden led by Myrtle Johnson performed with pianist Louise Leask. Evelyn Barrett opened in Jean Cook’s absence and May-born members were honored. A lunch of sandwiches and pie followed.

Manitoba Premier meets women’s groups over home economics crisis

Provincial W S executive tailed Premier Pawley on May 16 1986 to discuss dissolving the Family Resource Management component and six staff layoffs in the Home Economics Service. A central Home Economics Resources Directorate will be created with frozen positions pending resolution and consultations with the Chief Home Economist. Manitoba Women's Institute and Home Economics Association representatives attended the talks, leaving with a sense of progress.

Volunteer Appreciation Day Highlights Local Volunteers

The Hamiota District Health Centre celebrated April 29 honoring about 55 volunteers with thanks from Administrator Ross Shear down. A Birch Lodge Activity Room film on volunteering preceded a luncheon and pins. About 135 people volunteer across Mobile Meals Kenton Miniota Oak River and Hamiota with services like clinics day programs and taxi drivers.

Hamiota reports an Awareness Afternoon at Kenton Junior High School on Wednesday June 4 from 1:00 to 4:00. Speakers include Pam Goulet on building a child’s self image Judy Barker on sexuality and responsibility and Aidrie Knight on.
