Uruski urges ten dollar bushel minimum for domestic wheat

Agriculture Minister Bill Uruski urged raising the domestic milling wheat minimum to $10 per bushel to help cover production costs. He told the May 7 submission to the Winnipeg Special Committee that even a $3 rise would raise bread by at most 4.5 cents per loaf and pay farmers about 15 cents per loaf.

Canada to host grain exporters meeting in Vancouver

A ministerial gathering of five major grain exporters will take place June 1 and 2 in Vancouver. Participants include Canada’s Charles Mayer, Argentina’s Lucio Reca, Australia’s John Dawkins, the EEC’s Frans Andriessen, and the USA’s Richard Lyng. They will discuss world grain trade problems.

Fund drive kickstarts with strong community turnout

In Hamiota the Friends of enstee report a successful start to the fund raising campaign. May 10 saw a full community hall for music by Harmony Music Makers with dancing and lunch donations. Earlier, grade 4-6 students presented Sleeping Beauty to a record crowd with admission by donation. Donations total $1,000 with further gifts welcomed through committee members.

ICG Utilities seeks rate hike for Brandon Manitoba gas

ICG Utilities requests a general rate increase for Brandon ICG Utilities Manitoba Ltd before the Public Utilities Board of Manitoba. The proposal total is 2.4 million on 67 million current revenue, about 3.5 percent overall, with residential bills rising roughly 15 dollars yearly. A public hearing in Brandon will begin in June.

Autopac Time Payment Notices Mailed in 1986

Winnipeg motorists on the Autopac Time Payment Plan receive notices. The first 1986 payment was due February 28 and the balance by May 30. Second installments for renewals after February 28 1984 are due within 90 days, with risk of suspension for nonpayment. MPIC urges questions to Customer Services at 946-6222.
