Crandall hosted the Birdtail River School Division No. 38 regular business meeting on Thursday May 18 1972 at 8 00 p m. Trustees Waddell Fulton Rapley Hyndman Arm were present.
The Rolling River Board adopts May minutes and explores traffic lights at Centre Street and Main for school traffic, hires a traffic director, and lifts a prior resolution. It approves bills, supports a learning disabilities resolution, releases land for a nursing home, adjourns to May 24, and considers inspector reports and staff space needs.
Memorial Hall hosted a spring themed shower for Judy Kirkpatrick bride elect of June 3. Guests wore corsages and were escorted by family members. Wendy McCallum played piano, Testie Shamray sang, gifts were opened, and out of town guests from Reston Portage Melita Rivers Cardale and Hamiota attended. Judy and Doug plan to live in Winnipeg.
The May meeting of the W I at Cardale brought 13 members and 2 visitors to the church basement. Minutes and treasurer reports were adopted, a hospital report was given, and a $40 donation was approved to help with the Senior Citizens trip to Peace Gardens.
Opening ceremonies roll call and 13 members present. Minutes read and treasurer's report given. Decision to send clothes to the Maples. Leanne Coulson moved, Cindy Snowdon seconded. A story from the Study Book was read. Treasurer collected funds followed by worship and closing.
The seventh 4H Call Club meeting was held at Allan Cumming’s home in May with business followed by RCMP Constable Graham Archibald presenting films on the Mounted Police. A forceful breeding class judged steers and heifers, with Achievement Day set for Saturday June 17.
The May UCW meeting on May 9 featured a Mother themed Worship and lunch led by the North group of ladies. Ada presented a $249.26 balance as the financial report while discussions covered a church garden plant roll call for June and plans for a June strawberry social.
About 20 4H members from Hamiota Shoal Lake area formed an action group to promote 4H, recruit members and leaders, and harmonize with the 4H Leaders Association. A nominating committee will meet to head the effort as the spring meeting discussed rallies camps tours and Brandon fair plans.
The Hamiota Explorers final meeting on May 8 honored three girls Maureen Mathison Brenda Thompson and Elaine Routledge with gold E pins and graduation certificates. Mothers and grandmothers attended as tea and musical numbers followed. On May 14 the group gave roses to the congregation and on May 21 presented a cheque to the Mission and Service fund.
About seventy people gathered in Chumah Hall on May 20 to honor Gail Hutchings a bride of June 10. Gail arrived escorted by Terry McLaren and family members while gifts including BRETT-YOUNGE seeds were presented. A Trousseau Tea is planned for May 27 with musical selections and a luncheon afterwards.
OAK RIVER Unit 2 of the UCW held its May gathering at the home of Mrs. Jean Skinner. Eleven members and two visitors attended. Miss L Bowman led with the UCW Creed, with programs by Mrs. Skinner and Mrs. Thompson from the clip sheet and the Observer. Mrs. McNeill read scripture. Prayer concluded, followed by a lunch served by Mesdames Skinner and Georgie Thompson.
W I Meet at Mrs G Decker's home with Group 1 in charge of worship. Mrs Johns reads Psalm 95 and the 23rd Psalm sung. A recording of It is no Secret what God can do was played. Minutes read and adopted. correspondence noted $10 sent to fund two girls for Africa work. Treasurer shows 532.11 on hand. Lunch sale adds 53.07. CGIT donated 50 for church use. Mrs Wilson spoke on Brandon Mental Hospital volunteer work. New mental health literature distributed. Members invited. Lunch and social follow.
