Hamiota Red Sox Use 13 Unearned Runs to Beat Souris

The Hamiota Red Sox defeated the Souris Cards 13 to 0 in Souris to open the Manitoba Senior Baseball League season. Feldner struck out seven while Souris pitchers allowed seven hits. Bryan Smith, Sims and Wright led the scoring with key RBIs as Hamiota staged a dominant performance.

Shoal Lake Hosts Hospital Institute One Day Event

A one day institute at Shoal Lake Hospital May 7 covered orientation in service education job descriptions and hours scheduling for small hospitals. Nursing consultant Sister Beatrice WambeKe from Manitoba Association of Registered Nurses led the program with strong attendance from area hospitals. Hamio ta District Hospital was represented by four staff members. Proceeds from a staff tea and bazaar totaled 280 dollars with most funds earmarked for an ice machine. A second institute May 12 13 at Hamiota hosted by the Canadian Arthritis and Rheumatism Society drew 26 nurses Monday and 29 Tuesday with Dr Lambert as guest speaker.

Couple celebrates 50th wedding anniversary in Brandon

Ladies Club May Meeting Recap at Mrs Bernice Lewis’s Home

The May meeting of the Ladies Club was hosted by Mrs. Bernice Lewis with twenty members and two visitors. Mrs. Myrna Preston led Worship assisted by Mrs. Laura McLean and Mrs. Janelle Houck. Festival numbers by Donna, Barbara, Heather, Merrilyn, Sherry Smith, Anita and Edith Ann Lewis followed, featuring vocal and piano solos and duets.

Bride Elect Honoured at May 31 Shower in Hamiota

At Chumah Hall a shower for Miss Phyllis Pollock bride elect of May 31 drew about sixty friends and relatives. Guests wore corsages as Phyllis and Art were wished well with gifts, readings, musical numbers, a decorative skit, and a luncheon before departing for Winnipeg.

U C W Meeting at Mrs Decker Home

U C W held at Mrs G Decker's home on Thursday May 15 at 8 o'clock with 17 members present. Mrs Hunter opened with a poem What is a Mother. Worship by group 1 under Mrs Cooke. Minutes read and approved. Discussion on sun protection for church windows. buying committee and executive to decide. Mrs Cochran reported nylons received. Mrs Little reported a flower arrangement sent to the bereaved. Donations to Camp Wasaga Vacation Bible School and the Coffee House at Clear Lake.

Ladies Legion Auxiliary Meeting at Oak River

Twenty one members attended with Mrs Grace Bulloch in the chair. Reports included sympathy and well cards and a baby card. A committee was named to plan the wedding catering. The group received the Mrs E Stewart Shield at Russell convention. Ellen Greenaway earned the Royal Canadian Legion Certificate of Merit. Next meeting features a pot luck supper. Door prize won by Ellen Greenaway.
