Shower Held for Bonnie Coombs in Chumah Hall

A miscellaneous shower in Chumah Hall on May 5 honored bride elect Bonnie Coombs. Escorts included Barb Lints and Mrs Eleanor Coombs as well as Mrs Joyce Scott. flowers and streamers decorated the hall. The event featured songs about Bonnie and a wagon scene, followed by a tea invitation and performances by Klagenberg girls Leila Mona and Treena.

Advance Fee Racket Warns Manitoba Business Owners

The Manitoba Securities Commission warns provincial business owners, especially in rural areas, to beware of out-of-province promoters seeking listings and advance fees of 1000 to 1500 dollars. Promoters promise buyer interest and that commissions will be paid by purchasers, with inflated listing prices. The Real Estate Brokers Act requires licenses, and owners are urged to contact the Registrar at 944-2558 in Winnipeg before signing or paying money.

Shuffleboard Windup Draws Hamiota Club At Centre

About 90 members of the Shuffleboard Club gathered at the Community Centre for a year end windup event. The meeting featured games, socializing, and prize draws as members wrapped up the season.

Hamiota Home Ec Club held its achievement program on Tuesday the 24th with the International Year of the Child theme. Members showcased foods crafts self-determined and adopt a grandparent projects and some will attend a Shoal Lake rally June 2.

Royal York Install Officers at Shoal Lake Chapter No 30

Royal York Chapter No 30 0.E.S. installed officers on Tuesday evening April 24 with Dorothy Switzer as Installing Officer. Rae Elliott becomes Worthy Matron and Allister Elliott Worthy Patron. Kae Elliott received Past Matron's pin from her husband. The chapter supported Cancer Centre, Cancer Research, and Carlton Lodge with donations. Annual Heart Fund drive and tea events highlighted a busy year. Worthy Matron to serve as Grand Chapter delegate. birthday meeting planned next month.

Ladies Club Meeting Highlights May Event

The Ladies Club met at Betty Smiths on May 8 with seven teens. Devotions were led by Betty Smith Laura McLean Vicki Smith and Violet Nicholls. Members discussed Fiji New Zealand Australia and Tahiti slides and $389.60 on hand. A $20 donation to the Community Friendship Committee was approved. Hospital Tea is planned for May 9 with three workers needed. Carities baking and seven articles for sale requested. Afghan raffle winner Nora Kirk. Proceeds to Camp Wasaga. Plant exchange and lunch noted.

Art Club Show in Hamiota Draws Crowd and Wins

The Hamiota Art Club spring show and tea at the Community Centre May 5 and 6 displayed 106 works in acrylic oil pastel and more plus handicraft pieces. The guest book recorded 306 attendees from Hamiota district and beyond including three visitors from British Columbia. Prizes went to Bessie Houck Mrs Les Reid and Janet Haight with proceeds from ticket sales totaling 165 dollars and 20 cents.
