Manitoba to require turn signals on all vehicles
Manitoba will amend the Highway Traffic Act to require all motor vehicles and trailers registered in the province to have turn signals effective July 2 1970. Currently only vehicles 1958 and newer must have signals. The change aims to reduce accidents when drivers use hand signals in bad weather and to avoid signal obstructions from loaded trailers. The province estimates about 40 000 pre 1958 motor vehicles and 15 000 trailers lack signals and the cost to install is about 15 000 to 15 000?

The Hamiota club held its May 11 event in Chumah Hall with centennial themed displays. 25th Anniversary Celebrated in Winnipeg
A May 2 1970 no host dinner in Winnipeg honored Mary and George Fraser on their 25th wedding anniversary. Gifts of crystal and silver, a corsage, boutonniere, and inscribed cake were presented by Moss Fraser. Family included Norman Fraser Doris Bernstein Robert Bernstein and Jane MacPherson on her 82nd birthday observed with a jade brooch and birthday cake.

U C W Meet Cardale Unit Holds May Meeting
The Cardale UCW unit met Wednesday May 6 in the church basement with eight members. President Mrs Georgia Hyndman led business and a centennial quilt and prize ticket were discussed for Sports Day. Manitoba to raise minimum wage October first to dollar fifty
Labor Minister Russ Paulley announces Manitoba will lift the basic wage from 1.35 to 1.50 per hour starting October 1, an 11 percent increase. Provisions also raise youth and inexperienced worker minimums to 1.25 and 1.35 during initial employment. About 30,000 to 35,000 workers could be affected across restaurants hotels laundries hospitals and shops. The move puts Manitoba ahead of the federal minimum of 1.25.

The May UCW meeting at Mrs Robt Hedley’s featured a reading and a worship theme An Island of Time. Clothing donations for the base were requested to be left in the basement. The Messengers met in Crandall school auditorium on May 9 with Kevin Bray presiding. Sherry Smith read minutes, Don Lewis reported finances, and plans were finalized for the May 23 achievement day at Crandall Community Hall featuring a charity table, candy sale, tea, and a bake sale by Crandall and Decker Explorers. The group noted Crandall school’s closing and thanked supporters as they prepare for a final combined meeting with Decker.
