Price cards tell story of wheat collapse in 1930s

Mahlon Westby saved price cards from the Ridfrath elevator showing the 1927 to 1934 era for No 1 Northern Wheat. Initial prices moved from 86 cents to 1.00 per bushel, then fell to 70, 60, 55 and 50 cents as world prices plummeted. By 1931 the price was 35 cents, about 12.85 per tonne, with lakehead basis and transport deducted, leaving farmers with little return.
