Retirement party honors Dr Keith Hames in Kenton

Dr Keith Hames and his wife Bettie were guests of honor at a Sunday retirement party in Memorial Hall Kenton. Local officials, church members and a large group of friends shared anecdotes and best wishes as the Hameses reflect on years serving as resident doctor and community member. The event featured greetings from Reeve Ivan Bray and others, a plaque and purse from the community, and a luncheon following the program.

Family Dance and Sleeping Beauty aid Deryck fund

Friends of Deryck organize a campaign to raise funds for a loaner vehicle for Deryck Desrochers a 10 year old with muscular dystrophy. Events include a May 10 family dance 8 PM to midnight at the Community Centre and an May 15 school performance of Sleeping Beauty with proceeds for the fund.

Manitoba 4-H Speech Competition Opens in Brandon

The Provincial 4-H Intermediate Public Speaking Competition opens May 10 at the Agricultural Extension Centre in Brandon. Sponsored by Radio Southern Manitoba, the event features 12 speakers aged 11 to 13 from Manitoba's six 4-H regions. Finals start at 10 a.m. with public attendance allowed.

Twin Valley Co op Annual Meeting Held at Miniota

Twin Valley Co op held its annual meeting on April 14 1986 at Miniota About 100 members attended the supper and meeting The 1985 financial report was presented by president John Castle Sales for 1985 were over 7 million This was a sales increase of a million dollars Savings for 1985 were 261593 or 37 of the members purchases 62 new members joined the Coop in 1985 58500 was paid out to members in equity payments Over the years Twin Valley has paid out 643000 The balance sheet shows the Co op in a strong financial position with member ownership at about 60 During the meeting Wayne Satas Ken Fulton and Mac leland were reelected to the Board of Directors for a three year term Guest speaker Patrick Mooney from Brandon spoke on dangers of large companies controlling plant and animal breeding and the need for producer consumer voice in the future direction of breeding.

Youth Job Centre Office Opens in Hamiota

The Manitoba Youth Job Centre opened for summer in Hamiota and area to help students and unemployed youth find casual and full time work. It runs May 5 to September 14 for Career Start though employer applications closed March 27. Last year 274 youths found jobs through the centre.
