Seniors consider staffing tourist information van

Hamiota Seniors Council met at 10:00 a.m. on April 30 to discuss manning a Tourist Information Van placed near the Drive Inn, seven days a week in the summer, with volunteers from the seniors. Also covered were Support Services for Seniors, grant hopes, a coordinator post, and office in the Municipal Building. John Rankin reported on the Provincial Games shuffleboard playoffs at Keystone Centre Brandon and the Spring Conference in Brandon. A second museum building, the former McConnell railroad station, was moved to its present spot in Hamiota, with calls for more volunteers. A May 31 concert, Smilin Johnnie, was planned at Hamiota Collegiate, with a full ad to follow in The Echo.

Bride-elect feted in Newdale Bridal Shower

About 45 guests gathered April 25 at Newdale United Church Hall to honor Denise Dumas ahead of her marriage to Darcy Zariwney. Tracey Melnyk kept the guest book while Marg Osborne and Mrs. Ralph Pederson guided guests to seats and welcomed attendees.

4-H Members Clean Roadsides in Manitoba Cleanup

A large contingent of 4-H members and leaders from the area joined the Roadside Clean-up on Saturday May 2 in Hamiota. The event ran from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with help from the Manitoba Department of Highways and Transportation and Manitoba Agriculture. The effort supports fundraising and community service for the clubs as they remove litter from ditches.

Enterprises elect officers

At a Kenton Community Enterprises meeting, officers were elected including President Doug Anderson and chairmen for the Rink, Hall, and Ball Park committees. Bookings for the Hall and Rink continue as before. The rink is the main project for the coming year and members are urged to support it with time and money. Regular meetings move to the 2nd Tuesday each month. Next meeting is May 12.

Legion Auxiliary welcomes two new members

HAMIOTA The Ladies Auxiliary to Legion Branch No 174 met April 28 1987 with 15 members present. President Maxine Cumming chaired. Two new members were welcomed. Secretary Frances Kirkpatrick read minutes and presented reports. They will not canvass for the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal this year. Golf tournament hosted by the Hamiota Auxiliary set for June 15 1987. 40 year pin to Alice Pedlow and 25 year pins to Nora Knight and Doris Hutchings. Petty Fund winnings announced. meeting closed with raffle proceeds for a grocery hamper.

Lawn’s celebrate 40th wedding anniversary in Isabella

George and Blanche Lawn celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a dance and buffet on April 11 in Isabella Hall. Music by Mellow Winds of Brandon accompanied relatives from Bassano Regina Weyburn and many Manitoba communities attended the event and guest book notes were recorded.
