Lake Gammack Named in Honor of War Serviceman
The Canadian Permanent Committee on Geographical Names honors Tpr. A J Gammack of The Lord Strathcona Horse with Gammack Lake at latitude 58 19 and longitude 97 20 The lake is named in memory of the late James and Isabella Gammack's second son who enlisted in March 1941 and died May 25 1944 aged 35 He spent his youth in the Decker and Lavinia districts Bill Gammack brother of the deceased received a scroll from Manitoba Minister Al Mackling confirming the naming.

Part-time Students Urged to Receive Loan Parity
Winnipeg Education Minister Maureen Hemphill asks federal official Serge Joyal to extend Canada Student Loan Program support to part-time students on the same basis as full-time students. She notes part-time borrowers repay loans with interest while at school, hindering training and employability during economic need. Hamiota Hosts Centennial Square Dance Jamboree
On April 14 1984 the Hamiota Happy Hustlers square dance club held a jamboree at Hamiota Elementary School in honour of Hamiota’s centennial and the clubs 25th anniversary. About 160 dancers from Manitoba and Saskatchewan joined in calling by Earle Park of Yorkton.

The Hamiota United Church Youth Group directed by Reg Hedley and Nadine Slimmon presented an Easter Sunrise Service. A sermon titled Ressurrection was delivered by Owen Genung followed by prayer and a breakfast hosted by Garry Slimmon LaVerne Slimmon and Reg Hedley. Attendees from Hamiota and nearby churches were thanked.

Kelly Mathison a 22 year old Hamiota native and ACC hockey captain is named the Ministers Cup recipient. The award recognizes academic standing varsity ability and community involvement. Provincial golf courses reopen with 1983 fees maintained
Manitoba’s two provincially owned courses Falcon Lake and Hecla Island opened on April 19. Rates stay at 7 dollars weekdays and 8 dollars weekends, with seniors 2 dollars and children 2.50 a round. Tee times not required but recommended, reservations possible one day ahead by phone or in person. Hecla pro shop via Hecla 72, Falcon pro shop at 1 349 2554.
