GST savings for farmers to cut operating costs in Canada
Ottawa reports that replacing the federal sales tax with the GST will yield about 240 million in savings for farmers. Most farming sales are zero rated, enabling refunds for GST paid on inputs. Farmers will also receive refunds within 21 days or earn interest, and fuel used for business will be rebated. A list of major items may be tax free, to be determined with agricultural representatives.
