United Church Variety Concert in Miniota Nets $950
The New United Church Ways and Means Committee hosted a Friday April 19 event at the Miniota Community Centre with Rev. Andrew Comar as MC. Performers included the Miniota School Glee Club, local bands, choirs, a comedy sketch, and several vocal duets, concluding with God Save the Queen. Donations totaled $950 to support church fixtures and furnishings.

The Brandon YWCA hosted a Women of Distinction Awards Night for Westman Area on April 24. Of fifty six nominations eight women were chosen across eight categories. Vi Smith won Arts and Lorna Robertson won Sports Leisure with honorable mentions for Nork Kirk and Lena Robinson.

At the 77th Diploma Course in Agriculture commencement in Pembina Hall on April 19 1985 Wilfred James of Transcona and John L Rankin of Hamiota received Certificates of Merit from Dr Arnold Naimark President of the University of Manitoba. Rankin's citation notes his Diploma in Agriculture 1940 Governor General Medal for general proficiency 1940 long service with 4-H and local bodies and leadership in church schools and civic groups.
