Schools of Choice Program successful statewide
Thousands of Manitobans participated in the new government initiative allowing parents to send children to schools of their choice. Education minister Linda McIntosh announced 16,800 plus students changed schools in the first year across home and divisional lines. In 1997 98, 13,280 attended different schools within divisions, 3,530 crossed division boundaries, Birdtail River saw 28 in and 10 out while Pelly Trail had 7 in and 25 out.

Financial update shows pledges totaling 12500 from area residents with 2 to 5 year terms and reminders in April. Gifts in kind include roofing materials soffit fascia and 12 windows from local suppliers plus ongoing supplier cooperation. Community groups provide 5000 funding for fencing while events raised over 620 from a 50 50 draw. Major contributions listed from RM and municipal bodies totaling several tens of thousands with additional programs funding landscape and diving facilities.
