Manitoban Family Services faces funding cuts and program changes
Manitoba Family Services outlines a difficult budget year with declining federal transfers leading to adjustments across the department. Key steps include capping subsidized day care at 9,600 spaces, a $1.40 daily day care subsidy top up, 4 percent cut to licensed day care grants and 50 percent to licensed nursery schools, $2 per day per child cut to foster care maintenance, a 2 percent cut to residential care per diem, elimination of the student category in the Social Allowances Program, and faster recovery of overpayments. Minister Harold Gilleshammer says vital services for vulnerable Manitobans will be protected despite the reductions.
