Manitoba to welcome Royal Couple July 84 visit outlined

Premier Howard Pawley confirmed the Royal visit by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip to Manitoba from July 24 to July 27 1984. Plans include a Manitoba festival a 60th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force and the 250th anniversary of La Verendrye expedition with events in Dauphin Brandon Thompson Winnipeg and Lockport among other sites.

Shadow of Decision staged by Hamiota group at Pentecostal Church

International Bible College of Moosejaw presented the two act drama Shadow of Decision written by Jay Daniels. The plot centers on a zealous Communist party member and a Russian Christian under scrutiny in his home. A visiting Canadian teenager tests her faith as the play unfolds. After the performance, attendees shared lunch and conversation.

Hamiota 4 H Bonspiel Winners Named

On February 18 the Hamiota 4 H District Council held its annual bonspiel. Eighteen rinks competed with the Hawkins Good Baragar trio taking first. Bridge’s rink placed second and Collier third, followed by Steven and Collier, Lipscomb, Baragar, Clark and Koscielny in order.

Oak River Cub Pack Parent Association Meets In March 1984

The Oak River Cub Pack Parent Association held its first meeting March 6 1984 in the church basement. A pancake supper was served and volunteers thanked for cooking and donations. Plans include a bottle drive April 28 1984 from 1 to 4 pm and a Rubik Kar Kit for boys and leaders.

Blanshard Centennial History Books bring landmark update

The Blanshard Centen nial History Book Committee released A History of Blashard Municipality Volume III with a 480 page edition. Books sold at Oak River Municipal Office M and L Variety Cardale Greenaway's Insurance Strathclair, and the Strathclair Community Centre. A centennial baby Steven William Newton arrived February 6 1984. A centennial dinner for residents seventy plus planned June 16 Oak River and a July 13 review event. Centennial Days run July 14 15 16 with parade July 16 in Oak River. A commemorative centennial song written by Myrtle White and Joanne McTavish set to Flag of Canada.
