Birthday party marks 85th for Mrs. Blaich and 60th for Oswald
A March 3 birthday supper at the Miniota Motor Motel celebrated Mrs. O Blaich turning 85 and her son Oswald reaching 60. Family from Winnipeg Washington DC Swift Current and Prince George attended and guests included great grandchildren who gave flowers and roses. Letters of congratulations arrived from Manitoba’s Premier and other officials. A Come and Go tea followed at Mrs Blaichs home with grandchild sent flowers and over 80 visitors signed the guest book.

Beulah resident Philip Hi Eagle, a 39 year old Peace Officer with the Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council, won a $50,000 prize in the Western Express draw on February 29. Canadian Violinist Named Boston Symphony Concertmaster
Malcolm Lowe 30 of Hamiota Manitoba designated 10th concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra succeeding Joseph Silverstein after 22 years in the post. He will perform with the Boston Symphony Chamber Players and teach at Berkshire Music Centre in Tanglewood. Lowe previously led the Quebec and Regina symphonies and turned down a Toronto offer in 1980 to stay in Quebec City. He spoke from Philadelphia calling the Boston post ideal with rich chamber and solo opportunities. He plans to spend substantial time in Canada and did not predict immigration or union issues. His early study began with his father, then Regina Conservatory, and Curtis Institute mentors, with a notable Montreal competition result in 1979. His next Canadian appearance is Scarborough’s Fanfare '84 in May.
