Understanding Waste Management Facility Overview
The Waste Management Facility will process 14 000 tonnes of inorganic waste yearly. Water is removed at source to cut transport costs, leaving sludge that is easier to handle. Waste is treated to render it non hazardous. acids and bases are neutralized to salt and water, cyanide oxidation yields nitrogen and carbon dioxide. Heavy metals remain hazardous and are immobilized in a cement matrix. Inorganic waste does not burn or explode. Treated wastewater is distilled, reused, or used for landscaping.
