Time Running Out on Pensioners in Manitoba

Health officials in Winnipeg urge Old Age Pensioners who have not reapplied for Guaranteed Income Supplement to act by March 31 to avoid payment interruption. Ben Coupe notes over 70 000 January mailings and more than 10 000 non replies. changes in income could raise or lower April payments. The program supplements Old Age Security, with eligible recipients potentially receiving up to 252.60 in addition to 250.62.

Ottawa Senator Hazen welcomes PMO grain reform plans as the Government restructures grain activities under a new external affairs alignment. The Grains Group and Grain Marketing Office move to External Affairs while Hazen remains Grains Group chair and preserves interdepartmental links with Agriculture Canada and Transport Canada.

Festival of Faith to be Held in Hamiota United Church

The sixth annual Festival of Faith takes place at Hamiota United Church on Monday March 28 1983 with registrations from 9 00 am Canon Malcolm Harding of St Matthew s Anglican Brandon will address Spiritual Renewal relating to the Church community and Easter. An Evangel Book Shop Brandon display will be set up. Attendees are urged to bring a Bible and a bag lunch.

McConnell Beef Club Hosts 4-H Bonspiel at Cardale

The McConnell Beef Club held a two day 4-H Bonspiel on February 26 and 27 at Cardale with eleven rinks in three events. Prizes came from 4-H families Macleods Store Hamiota and the Limosine Association. Event winners included Harding Beef Club Daryl McLaughlin first in the first event, Kenton Kraftsmen Dennis Lonsdale first in the second, and McConnell Beef Club Lindsay Bridge top in the third.

Winnipeg Education Minister Announces Full Two Week Christmas Break

Education Minister Maureen Hemphill announced a change to Manitoba school regulations allowing a full two week Christmas break. The year will start the Wednesday before Labour Day after the holiday, but teaching days remain unchanged. Administrators will use opening days for staff administration, with no loss of teaching days.

Health Centre Auxiliary Meet HAMIOTA

President Cora Shier chaired the February 25 meeting of the Women's Auxiliary to the Hamiota Health Centre. Eleven districts were represented. Liaison report covers January ad missions 57 occupancy 80.50 and Homecare for 39 clients by 13 workers totaling 214 hours. Second chair for Century Tub and second cassette player for Birch Lodge to be purchased. For year ending November 30 1982 16 ambulance drivers made 103 trips transporting 107 patients, 35 percent outside area. Taxi service for Lodge residents praised. Treasurer Grace Orson reports $822.64 balance. Thirteen students join PC H volunteer program. Some spoons and T-shirts remain for sale. Regional Hospital meeting set for Elkhorn April 19.

Adams 40th Wedding Anniversary Dinner Held

A surprise family dinner celebrated Hazel and Gordon Adams on March 6 1983 at their Hamiota home. Relatives enjoyed a buffet and social evening with out of town guests Lyla Brown maid of honor, and Glenn Dorothy and Glen Gillespie from Yorkton Saskatchewan.
