Oldcorn Tops Local Bonspiel
The 83rd Hamiota Men's Open Bonspiel concluded March 5 after eight days and 64 rinks. Claude Oldcorn led the undefeated rink to win the Campbell Flowers Trophy with Jon Burton Allan Guild and Murray Guild. Nine of sixteen prizes went to locals. visiting teams claimed seven.

Winnipeg Attorney General Gerry Mercier announces Dr. Gordon Lamberd of Winnipeg as a member of the board of review to replace Dr. John Varsamis who has resigned. The board reviews cases of individuals charged with crimes found temporarily insane and decides if they can stand trial. At least two psychiatrists and one Manitoba lawyer must serve on the board.

World Day of Prayer Held in Hamiota Church
On Friday March 3 about sixty people gathered at Christ Church Hamiota for the World Day of Prayer service written by the Women's Inter-Church Council of Canada and adopted by the local three-church committee. Anglicans, United and Pentecostal participants shared readings and songs, a child violinist performed, and prayers were offered for community needs. An offering of 90.50 supported Christian projects including a 60th anniversary appeal.
