Premier outlines 800 million Nelson River power plan

Premier Duff Roblin proposes an $800 million project to develop two million kilowatts on the Nelson River to feed a national power grid. The plan envisions long distance transmission to Eastern Canada, joint financing with the federal government and other provinces, and potential savings for Manitoba and other consumers.

Westbrook Wins Grand Aggregate in Hamiota Bonspiel

The Bob Westbrook rink from Norman Julyan Bill Haggarty and Ron Armstrong won the Grand Aggregate at Hamiota’s 67th Bonspiel. Westbrook also claimed the Houck Caldwell prize and reached the final of the Challenge. Local rinks took eight of 24 prizes amid cold weather and large crowds with many games decided on the final rocks.

World Day of Prayer observed across Canada in 1962

A World Day of Prayer service will unite Canadian women from Yellowknife to Newfoundland on March 9 1962 in English French Indian Eskimo Japanese and Chinese. Women in 145 countries will join to pray for world peace and to fund refugees Braille literature and non English language materials. The Birdtail River School Division notes meetings and budget focused actions with officials Stimpson Selby Gamey Hunter Reynolds and Inspector Funk present.
