The Evening Auxiliary meets at Mrs Lena Robinson's home on Tuesday March 12 at 8 pm. The Annual Ice Folies are planned for Friday March 8 at the Ham ota Memorial Rink. Arnold Lyles Lindsay and Bill Lindsay attended the Mens Bonspiel last week. Mrs. Arnold Lindsay hosts visitors from Winnipeg. The Youngs visit and plan time in Hamiota with Mrs. Baldwin. A lost black key case with several keys, contact Brenda Pittendreigh or Irene Marks. Thanks for support in serving meals at the Men’s Bonspiel. over 900 dollars raised to reduce rink debt for the Hamiota Ladies Curling Club.

Home and School Meet in Hamiota Reads February Minutes

The Hamiota Home and School held its February meeting in the community room on Monday the 25th. The executive plans to select a district representative for the convention at end March. Mrs Don Pollock was nominated as press reporter. Rev Moffatt showed a film on family problems sparking a lively discussion. The next meeting is set for March 18 in the Community room.

Ladies Auxiliary Votes Scholarship for Local Student

At the February meeting the Ladies Auxiliary approved a fifty dollar merit scholarship for a local high school student who is a child of a veteran and intends further study. A committee led by Mrs D Pedlow Mrs Hazelwood and Mrs P Robinson will promote the project. The group also adopted a war veteran at the Deer Lodge Hospital Home to receive friendship letters cards small gifts and visits when in the city.

Students Welcome New Pupils and Classroom Clean-Up

The School's Student Corner notes Connie Kirk and Lyle Sunley as Grade XI and IX respectively, with new students Patsy McFadden from Cardale joining Grade IV Joan, Grade VIII Marie McFadden, and Grade IX. Grade IX class plans a spring house cleaning.

Funeral notices for John Allen f Brockie Donovan Fur pel Brandon

Funeral services for John Allen f Brockie Donovan Fur pel Brandon were held at the home in Brandon on February 10 after a long illness. Born 1891 in Gollasca Donamanagh County, Ireland, he came to Canada in 1911 and served in World War I. He ran a pen in Pope Manitoba from 192 to 1942, then moved to McConnell as store keeper for eleven years before retiring to Brandon. Survived by wife Athy, sons James Lawere of Montreal and John Ga of Winnipeg, and daughter Jane Isabel Pa of Rimbey Alberta, with several grandchildren. Pallbearers included R. Arbinot, McConnell, W. 8, C. L. Anderson, J. C. and Bruce Nich. Many tributes reflected the esteem in which he was held.

Red Cross Expands European Refugee Effort

The League of Red Cross Societies will assume care for 3 900 more Hungarian refugees in Austria from March 1 and oversee housing for 5 500 more allowed by May. By then Red Cross will care for about 98 percent of Austria’s refugee population. Canadian Red Cross will supply food drugs and essentials from over 40 national societies. A fourth Canadian team is planned by May to support new camps.

Culling of Bulls and Supreme Cattle Show Highlights

Wednesday program lists events including Culling of Bulls at 1 pm, Heavy Horse Judging at 3 60 p.m, Matinee 7 00, Evening Horse Show 8 45, followed by Awarding of Supreme Cattle Championships. Thursday continues with more events.
