Birtle Presbytery Meeting Updates And Hymn Book Focus

Birtle Presbytery met February 7 at Minnedosa United Church with Rev. Bob Kayes presiding. Ministers seeking admission to the United Church were read for action by Conference and General Council. The group discussed training ministers and congregational development. The United Church Women raised 10,594 dollars across 32 groups for mission. A $200,000 continuing education project was noted with over half of ministers involved. A study grant of 100 dollars was awarded to Earl Gould. The Division of Ministry seeks rights for Miss Marion Pardy to dispense communion. The New Hymn book dominated afternoon talks, with a hymn sing led by Gardale choir and ideas for contemporary worship. A fellowship supper followed, and an open Presbytery meeting with Don Cockrill was cancelled.

WI meet Hamiota discusses home income and travel tales

The Wisconsin Manitoba club met February 1 with 20 members. Mrs. Art Morris presided and installation of officers was led by Mrs. Nichols. Topics included earning money at home and the Farm Vacation Plan. Members shared United Nations, Citizenship, Agriculture, and a Texas bus trip with photos and orange prices. The meeting closed with Mizpah Benediction.

Card Party Held in Fraternal Hall February 25 1972

A Friday card party hosted by Rebekah and Forester Ladies Lodge in HAMTOTA featured winners for ladies and gentlemen. Mrs Clare Hodgson and Mrs Bill Pollock led ladies, while Mr Murray Coupland and Mr Martin topped the gentlemen. Free passes awarded, lunch served, next event set for March 10 with a welcome everyone.

Huskies Fall to Russell Rams in MAHA Playoffs

Hamiota’s Huskies were eliminated by Russell 7-5 after a first period 2-0 lead. Russell surged with 3 unanswered second period goals and 5 goals from Carl Haney, sealing the win. The Huskies then defeated Strathclair to advance to the NCBHL final, while Strathclair and the Blues traded wins in other MAHA matchups.

District Hospital Notes Highlight Local Donations and Plans

The Hamiota District Hospital Governing Board reviews 1971 donations totaling 3,953 in goods and cash plus 1,380 for ambulance equipment. Community groups and five municipal corporations funded ward improvements, a new ambulance service began November 1 and by year end answered ten calls. Local clubs, schools, and individuals donated beds, furniture, and equipment, supporting expansion and patient comfort.

UCW Meet at Oak River Unit 2 Held at Mrs Griffiths Home

Eight members attended the UCW meeting at Mrs Griffiths home on Tuesday at 8 p.m. Mrs Griffiths and Miss Edith Ferguson presented the program. Mrs Paddock led the worship, and the group planned a Tea and Bake Sale with lunch served by Mrs Griffiths and Ferguson.

UCW meeting notes at Mrs. Lints home February 24

The UCW met at Mrs. Norman Lints home on February 24. Group 1 led by Mrs. Hunter conducted worship on the topic Pettiness. Fourteen members attended. Business included raising wedding reception charges to 1.50 per plate and desserts from 1.00 to 1.25.
