Counselling psychologist Nanc Ossberg and colleagues report over 3 million grandchildren are raised by grandparents, a 44 percent rise since 1980. More than one million depend on grandparents with median annual income about $18,000. Twelve percent of households rely on grandparent caregiving.
Lion Mac Campbell passed leadership to Lion Firmin Bisenders at the June 17 luncheon. The Hamiota club recesses for two months though summer activities continue, with scholarships and a July 8 highway cleanup and July 14 booth cleanup planned. A Benches for seniors project is under review with Therrien and Dean McConnell’s aerial photo business. The Lions Trust fund receives donations via Treasurer Ryan Hamilton.
KRISTA MCKINNON reports a busy June at the Hamiota Swimming Pool with regu lar times for public swimming and lessons. Regular sessions start June 30, intensive July 14 18 and 21 25. New July times include adult lap and fitness classes, with registrations ongoing and fundraising underway for a new pool as the committee canvasses and accepts donations at the pool.
