unofficial vote tally shows Kreager winning the Birdtail River School Division board seat with 247 votes to Perlmutter 212. race spread across Hamiota North Hamiota South Crandall Decker contests. Kreager secures vacancy after Rev Ralph Clark resignation.
The Hamiota and District Swimming Pool committee held its first public meeting on June 26 in the Community Room with strong community turnout. Plans call for a door to door canvass starting July 4 to raise capital with gifts of 50 to 100 dollars per family. Donations and pledges to the Royal Bank of Canada branch will fund the project and a progress thermometer will show growth.
The Hamiota community marks the end of long municipal service with Joseph Andrew and his son William T. Andrew. They note combined father son tenure totaling 88.5 years and 66.5 years respectively as of 1972. Reeve Elmer P. Houck and Mayor Nellie Woods present golf clubs to Mr. Andrew.
The June 4 1919 wedding of Miss Myrtle Murray and Mr James Mitchell of Hamiota united them in the bride's home with Rev George Lockhart officiating. Attendants included Miss Pearl English and Orville Murray. Fifty three years later the group gathered at Ina Murray Scrimshaw’s home with Pearl McLeod and James Mitchell of Vancouver. Orville’s sisters Ina and Pearl drew closer to family, while Mitchells later moved to Vancouver and Kamloops.
Cardale held a Sunday promotion service conducted by Mrs. Georgia Hyndman and Mrs. T. Wyatt with the Sunday School leading the worship. Certificates and pins were awarded for 2 to 7 years of service and attendance, with a transfer noted for Randy Dennison and Tracy Radcliffe, and the service closed with hymns and benediction.
On June 14 seventeen members held a pot-luck supper and regular meeting. Two ladies were appointed to join other groups to plan a new catering price schedule. Salvation Army canvass brought in 149.85 dollars. Door prize went to Mrs. Tweed. No meetings until September.
More than 125 people gathered at the Legion Hall in Neepawa on May 26 to honor Peter Duchart and his wife Mary on his retirement from the Manitoba Power Commission after a 1938 start in construction. He served as District Supervisor in Somerset, then McCreary for 28 years, and remained active in McCreary civic life. Attending were Mayor Fletcher, Duchart family, and contributions from Manitoba Hydro and Local 2034 IBEW.
The Hamiota Red Sox improve to 5 8 after a 7 1 win over Riverside with Ron Ramsey allowing 1 run on 6 hits. Mel Smith had 3 of 9 Sox hits while Glennis Scott and Ellis Woods added two each. They then lost 8 3 to Minot in a five inning, 8 3 defeat, and later prepared for Brandon Cloverleafs with scheduled games July 1 and 4.
Friday June 23 a Come and Go Tea was held at Decker United Church parlour honoring Mr. and Mrs. George Davis on their 25th anniversary. Ninety guests signed the book as gifts included luggage opal-glass swag lamp stacking stools and a walnut silverware chest. Gifts were presented by Angus Maynes Harvey Lints and Ellwood with Gary Davis and Connie sponsoring the chest. A committee led by Irene Maynes and others served lunch with a wedding cake by Gladys Schweitzer and decoration by Maggie Reid.
Hamiota recreation director outlines STEP funded programs starting first week of July at the fairgrounds. drama for children, an arts and crafts clinic for summer leaders, afternoon playground games, a ladies slim and trim program, volleyball and badminton for ages 12+, and a teen drop-in centre, with contact number 7642708.
