Drought aid plans announced in Manitoba
Manitoba farmers will receive 62.5 million dollars under the Manitoba Crop Loss Compensation Program funded by federal and provincial governments to aid drought battered regions. The program targets southwest and south central Manitoba and uses a three tier payment system based on 1989 yields versus a 15 year average. Initial payments will go to insured crops within weeks, with non insured acres requiring applications due by July 31. A producer review committee will ensure fair treatment.
