Oak River United Church 50th Anniversary Service

Oak River Crendail and Oak River United Church shared a 50th anniversary celebration on June 1 led by Rev. D McNeill. Trumpet fanfare, choirs, and readings highlighted the day with a cake shaped like a giant 50 and a Africa slides program to follow the afternoon events.

UCW Meeting Highlights At Rid dell Home

The June UCW gathering at Mrs. W Rid dell’s home drew 13 members and 2 visitors. Mrs. Hutchings led devotions on the Lord s Prayer, and Mrs. Lloyd Anderson read scripture as the night chair opened with the Purpose. A Finance report noted 678 on hand. A motion planned church clean up August 27 and a lunch at Mrs. Routledge s store sale. A committee led by Mrs. H Anderson was formed for Joanne Riddell s August wedding. The group recalled a Hospital Aid meeting on June 16 and that UCW would recess for summer, resuming October 2 for the Thankoffering service.

Hamiota Red Sox Hold Off Brandon In 5-4 Finish

Frustrated by washouts and errors the Hamiota Red Sox split a pair with Brandon, winning 5-4 after a late rally. Doug McPhail homered for Riverside and Mel Smith led Hamiota with 3 hits in another rough week for the Cloverleafs.

Tossing Manes Pony Club Holds June Meeting in Hamiota

The 10th meeting of the 4 H Tossing Manes Pony Club gathered in the Agricultural Building basement with 9 members and two leaders. They set August 16 as a tentative 4H Achievement Day and plan a riding practise at Hamiota Fair Grounds on June 29 with Mr Cloak assisting. A trail ride to Mr Brooks farm and a weiner roast followed. A committee was elected to buy supplies and Rally Day is set for Strathclair on June 7. Uniforms were handed out.

Pioneer Club Plans Busy Season In Hamiota

MHamiota Pioneer Club met at the museum for a cleanup and business session to prepare for the season. Officers were elected: Lor ne Montgomery president R N Beamish secretary J E Riddell treasurer. The annual parade is planned for July 17 with the Hamiota Band floats and clowns. The museum opens Sundays in July and August 2 5 to 7 9 pm by appointment also.

Women's Institute Meeting Report from June 3

The Women's Institute held a June 3 meeting at Mrs Dov Pangman's home with seven members and six visitors present. The Creed, mite readings, and treasurer's report opened, followed by correspondence. A plan to linoleum two cloak rooms and redo the kitchen was decided. Roll call asked what members hoped to accomplish this summer. A Fat Stock Show dinner is planned for June 28 with plate meals. Tickets drew two plant boxes, won by Mrs Nora McConnell and Mrs Agnes Mitchell. Georgie Hyndman spoke on ACWW work. Pangman thanked her. Lunch was served.
