Benefit Dinner Supports Lyndon Johnston Skating Dreams
About 200 people attended a benefit dinner at the Hamiota Collegiate Auditorium on June 4 1982 for Lyndon Johnston. The event featured Vi Smith organ music, a head table procession, and a barbecued chicken dinner. Ruth McConnell recounted Lyndon’s skating career from early wins to 1982 Canadian junior champion and gold medalist in the Order of Sports Excellence, with tributes from Nancy Fogarty and Judge Rodney Mykle. Approximately 2675 dollars was raised for a Lyndon Johnston Trust Fund to cover coaching and travel costs.
