Shower honors Miss Bernice Kirk before wedding

Before her June 5 wedding in a home shower hosted by Mrs. E. Kirk, Miss Bernice Kirk was festooned with a special chair, escorted by Bet h Amy, and presented with corsages. Mrs. Chas. Lewis Jr read the address as Sydney John Lewis led a miniature wagon of gifts. Bernice and guests thanked organizers after a brief contest and lunch.

School District 3 Holds Spring Convention in Hamiota

The School Trustees No 3 held their spring convention June 14 at the Hamiota Theatre. President Bert Mitchell of Rossburn presided with Wm Bolton of Birtle and Inspector Funk of Shoal Lake assisting. Delegates numbered about 46 with Mayor Venables and Wilfred Cochran welcoming. Dinner was served by the W.A. at the United Church.

Norah Fleming Honored in June 3 Shower

A shower held at Mrs. T. J. Strachan's home June 3 1954 honored Miss Norah Fleming a bride elect of June 19. Guests included Mrs. Fleming, Mrs. Harvey Gray, and Mrs. Charlie Gray the groom’s grandmother. Norah thanked guests for gifts. Mrs. E. D. Hudson and Mrs. Strickland presided at the tea table.

Oak River Girl Wins Hamiota Speaking Contest

Donna Heapy of Oak River won first place in the W I sponsored public speaking contest for 4 H club members in Clarence Bailey's agricultural district. Myron Bartlett of Miniota and Viola Dale of Hamiota finished second and third among six contestants speaking on soil conservation health and natural resources. Judges Rev Moffat Miniota Rev Friebert Cardale and Dan Levenick Hamiota praised the effort with Levenick as chair. Prizes from Kiwanis Club and cash awards from Stanley Jones Winnipeg Grain Exchange were given to all top contestants.
