Manitoba W I celebrates centennial at annual convention
Manitoba W I held its three day centennial convention May 30 to June 1 at the University of Manitoba with about 130 delegates in centennial dress. Marion Settee of Matheson Island won the Myrtle A Rose bursary of 500 dollars to further her education as a Metis student. Women elected to leadership included Mrs E R James of Grosse Isle as president for 1967 68 and Mrs Stanley D Price of Warren as vice president. New and returning district presidents and advisory board members were named from several towns including Isabella Grandview Roblin Plum Coulee Red River Valley Kemnay Manitou Portage Grunthal Benito Winnipeg Interlake and others.

Trustees Rankin Stimpson Fulton Selby Rapley Randell and Clark attended with Messrs Davison Robertson Morris and Inspector Funk. Actions approved include adopting May 16 minutes and funding Allan Preston 100 toward Summer Science Program travel.

John McGhee Rites Held at Hamiota United Church
Funeral service for John McGhee was held at Hamiota United Church on June 9 with Rev Ralph Clark officiating. Born in Scotland in 1887, he settled in the Hamiota district after moving to Canada, farmed in Pope from 1914 to 1953, and retired to Hamiota. Survived by wife, five daughters, eight grandchildren, and sisters in Canada and Scotland. Interment in Hamiota cemetery.

Lepine Robertson and Rogers then danced in Dauphin April 15 with Harvey Robertson. Bertram Woods Lawson Robertson Lepine and Rogers joined Rivers Jamboree April 22 for more dancing and lunch. Levine Robertson and Rogers jammed Souris May 6 with Martin Mallard calling. Lepine Robertson and Rogers danced Brandon May 31 with Earl Park Corky Birt calling en route to Winnipeg.

Former Hamiota student Bob Hudson earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at the U B C Spring Convocation on June 2. He received the Wilfred Sadler Memorial Gold Medal for the top agriculture graduate and was awarded the MacMillan Bleeder Scholarship of 3200 per year toward a PhD at UBC.
