Evan Venables veteran Hamiota merchant dies at Hamiota Hospital on June 5 1958 born October 9 1873 in Norwich Ontario married Mary Elizabeth Perry in 1900 and moved to Hamiota in 1906. He bought the Hardware Department in 1932 and retired in 1954. Survived by widow two sons George and Edward daughter Jessie McCann eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral at Christ Church with interment in Hamiota Cemetery.
Lions Club held a fish derby in Hamiota with 48 entrants and prizewinners led by A. J. Anderson for 3 Ibs 12 oz and Jim Martin for 3 Ibs 0 oz. C Hodgson won First Fish. R. Gamble Rivers had longest distance. Junior winner Wayne Pitten, Greg Hodge 2 Ibs 14 4 oz. Doreen Crew 2 Ibs 4 oz. Net profit totaled 12.74.
The twenty-ninth Fraser Clan gathering met Saturday at Island Park Portage La Prairie with fifty members from Winnipeg Portage la Prairie Hamiota Beulah Carmen Gladstone Mulvihill and Boweman. Dr J H Fraser of Winnipeg aged ninety two served as oldest member and gave a witty reminiscence. The next reunion is slated for Island Park Portage La Prairie in 1960. Officers include Hon Pres Dr J H Fraser Pres J K Fraser Vice Pres G Fraser Sec Treas Mrs W J Hickerson Bosman Social Committee Mrs P Gow Beulah and Mrs J Ward Hamiota.

Jim Stevens and Ian Rout led a motor trip to Winnipeg on Monday. Arthur Ross returned to Winnipeg after a few days in the district. Mrs. N. Jones of McAuley is a patient in Hamiota Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. J. Morrison and Mr. and Mrs. H. Gray visited friends at McAuley and Rocanville on Sunday. Garth Strachan and W B Strachan of Hamiota motored to Winnipeg to meet Miss Phyllis Strachan en route from Calgary to Montreal where she sailed on SS Saxonia to tour Britain, France and Germany for four months.
