Autopac rate changes tied to claims experience proposed in Manitoba

Manitoba Public Insurance seeks a 2.5 percent revenue rise through Autopac rate changes tied to individual claim history. Changes take effect March 1 1998 with staggered renewals into 1999 and include small business merit discounts and new service fees. The plan shifts to using CLEAR based risk data to set premiums and aims to keep Autopac costs low despite severe weather claims. Public hearings to review the rate application will be held by the PUB.

Busy crop season ahead for local agriculture official

Manitoba crop reporter John Patterson preps for a busy season monitoring seedings through harvest. Spring seeding is mostly done with spraying starting later this week and flea beetle sightings in canola fields. Wheat Midge risk remains on the radar as monitoring begins in July. The MCVET test plots for peas cereals oil seeds were planted May 9 and May 26 at a relocated site near Highway 21 and 24, with different crops spread across locations. A public tour of the MCVET site is scheduled for Tuesday July 22, while Canada Brandon retains the contract to maintain the site and efforts to install signage proceed. Patterson anticipates a productive year and weather will influence beetle pressure and crop growth.
