Fires threaten children and home safety guidance issued
A fire safety advisory from the All Canada Insurance Federation warns that many child deaths result from ignorance during fires or being left unattended. It urges not leaving children alone, near-fire phone access, mature babysitters with clear instructions, clear exits, unblocked routes, locked doors and closed windows, a fire extinguisher, and prompt reporting of fires. Provincial horticulturist William Baverstock notes strong apple crop prospects in the Okanagan with McIntosh as the main variety. A portable air conditioning unit is now available, easily moved to rooms as needed without tools.
