The local court of the Canadian Order of Foresters attended a Sunday evening service at the Methodist church, the largest procession of an internal society in town. Rev. W. A. McKim Young preached on watchfulness, firmness, and strength, urging members to live by faith through action and charity.
A coal farming competition will be staged by the Harding Agricultural Society for 1911 with $70 in prizes. First $25, second $15, third $10. Entrance fee $1. Entries must be in by Thursday June lath. If fewer than five entries, no contest. The C B P R offers 259 to top scorer in a sweepstakes across districts. Farms enter with the Society near the rotated office. Judges supplied by the Agricultural College. A P F Jasper Sec Treas.
The Town Council met in the Council Chamber with Mayor Woimpeter presiding. Minutes were read, A Liyndman reported unsanitary lane conditions, accounts were approved, a fire brigade communication was noted, and a by law imposing a $50 annual license on transient traders auctioneering goods was passed before adjourning.
About twenty lecturers will present demonstrations in sewing dairy husbandry milk testing household science poultry gardening field husbandry engineering veterinary science animal husbandry horticulture and forestry. The Agricultural College Special train will arrive in Hamiota on June 22 with Miss B Duncan of Toronto leading women focused sessions assisted by Miss A B Juniper and Miss M Kennedy from the Home Economics Staff.
The annual Tag Day in Hamiota for Niapette Santiccium raised funds on June 24. Captains praised lieutenants for work and thanked volunteers. Receipts listed include donors from Mrs. Demeyson’s ward and various neighborhoods, totaling a substantial contribution. Communities of Hamiota and Tay Way praised the day and the efforts of participants despite mixed reactions.
The Grand Trunk Pacific claims the fastest Western Canada service with a non stop run from Winnipeg to Edmonton. The train named Dui J L waits, departs Winnipeg after a short delay and arrives in Edmonton at 7 30 p.m. for a 20 hour 30 minute trip. Current time is 3 hours minutes. A new summer passenger service is announced.
