The elevator commission starts work from Garry St Winnipeg with 60 percent farmer petitions required to approve purchase or construction of public elevators. Staff will survey province for capacity and demand while seeking farmer cooperation to speed the nationwide system. Two commissioners will tour points as needed to expedite establishment.
Mrs. Leslie of Kenton and her daughter were returning home when a car spooked a horse three miles south of town. Mrs. Leslie was thrown and dragged, later treated by Dr. Hudson. no bones were broken, but she endured a severe shaking and stayed three days. The child was uninjured.
Mears J. H. Houck and W. Todd depart tomorrow morning to inspect potential land swaps in the western provinces. While away they will review the Bow River coal mines the two men have interests in and assess company involvement.
The hospital board met in the secretary’s office last Monday to review finances. Funds have run low for two months as several pledged donations remain unpaid. A final appeal will be made to past subscribers and ward representatives to complete canvassing and secure funds by year end, or the hospital may close in June.
The Grain Growers Association of Western Manitoba will hold its annual picnic at Shoal Lake on July 7. Prominent Central Association leaders will speak on key issues, with an athletic program and a boat ride aboard the motor boat Anemone. Special trains from Russell and Neepawa will run at low rates to welcome a record crowd.
Conservatives organized a meeting at the Orange Hall last Saturday afternoon despite bad weather. In the session Mr. S. W. Brethour was elected president Ed. L. Stone became secretary and an executive committee including O. Fraser W. Hern Fred Thornton Jos. Beamish Robt. King Thos Parkinson and F. E. Langdale was named.
