HAMIOTA The Hamiota and District Swimming Pool Project Committee reports the village canvass has reached about 75 percent of residences with positive response. Next week the town should be finished except for those away. Rural canvassing planned and volunteers welcome.
On July 3 approximately 70 friends and relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Sedgwick to honor their 25th wedding anniversary. The couple received an engraved tray a three piece china tea service and cut glass after pins were presented by Mr. Stewart Riddell with assistance from Mrs. Merle Argue Irene Riddell and Ethel Bates. Phyllis Sedgwick of Houston Texas attended. A lunch was served by the committee in charge and the anniversary cake was prepared and served by the couple. Tom Sedgwick gave a brief reply expressing thanks.
The Birdtail River School Division No 38 board met July 14 1972 at 8 p.m. Trustees Waddell Rapley Hyndman Mulake Kr eager Butcher Armitage Ham es and Lewychky attended. Motions approved minutes June 29 1972 correspondence financial and evaluation reports. A temporary classroom at Shoal Lake was authorized. By law 12/72 for the Lavinia School site sale was read and passed. An adjournment set for August 3 1972 and discussion on a transportation policy for September 1 1972 proposed changes to bus routes and yard transportation rules.
The Hamiota Manitoba School Band traveled to Calgary for the Stampede, endured a bus breakdown but reached the event. They placed third among bands from towns under 100,000, with Eton Colorado first and Collingwood Ontario second. The trip featured concerts, parades, Banff sightseeing, and heartfelt thanks to host Mrs. Olive Walker and chaperones.
A Saturday evening bridal shower honored Dorothy Gerrard of Winnipeg a July 29 bride elect. Guests included Dorothy’s mother sister and nieces with piano selections and vocal solos by Margo Johnston. Approximately 70 signed the guest book as gifts were presented and refreshments served by a committee.
W I members, charter attendees from 1922 including Mesdames A. L. Decker W. Hatton V. E. G. Little J. E. Sunley N Lints W. Gregory and H. Quinton gathered at Decker United Church. The program featured speeches, greetings, memories, a re enacted 1945 play, a buffet supper for 80 and an anniversary cake with gold tapers.
The Sox beat league-leading Binscarth Orioles 3-2 in thirteen innings as Ron Ramsay delivered a game-winning sacrifice fly after a clutch eighth and thirteenth frame. Allie McNiven started for Hamiota with Glennis Scott earning the win, while Bob Caldwell and Lynn Caldwell produced key hits for Hamiota and Gies, Parton, Hodgson, Stephens, Law and Deagh each had a hit for Binscarth. Rain delayed play but a large crowd stayed through extra innings and the teams prepared for the playoffs with several juniors linked to the action.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Scott were guests at a June 30 farewell in McConnell. Scott, after 45 years farming, will serve as secretary treasurer of the Union of Manitoba Municipalities in Portage la Prairie. Harvey Pollock spoke. Bert Baldwin presented Ashdown’s Trophy. He held many civic roles including Blanchard Council Reeve for 19 years and six years on the Manitoba Pool Elevators board. The event featured a dance, lunch, and a 1967 Centennial Award for citizenship.
