Camp-Out Successful for Grade Four and Five Students
On Wednesday and Thursday June 24 25 thirty nine Grade 4 and 5 students joined a camp out at Oak Lake Beach. The two day program included swimming canoeing hiking orienteering fishing and playground activities with instructors Beth Cochran Brad Lyall Terri and Tanis Mathison Heather Cochrane and Leslie Tutkaluke. Adult chaperones and cooks included Earl Lorraine Brooks Karen Lyall Sheila Kirk Sharon Galatuik Doreen Angus nurse Linda Irwin and Maureen Milne teachers. All attendees reported having a good time.

Natural Resources Minister Harry Enns announced a $1000 grant to the Winnipeg Game and Fish Association to assist compiling and publishing the group's history. The association, founded in 1882, is among North America's oldest wildlife conservation volunteer groups.

Manitoba Century Farm program nears 1981 deadline
More than 70 applications have arrived for Manitoba Agriculture Century Farm Awards as of August 15 1981 with many more expected. Director Morris Deveson notes nominees mostly started between 1878 and 1881, marking agriculture history nearing the 100 year milestone. Eligible families receive a gate sign and certificate after nominations close. Forms are available at local Manitoba Agriculture offices and Rural Municipal offices, with submissions to the Agricultural Training Branch in Winnipeg.

Manitoba Extends Workers' Comp to Service Volunteers
Volunteers in Manitoba health and social service programs will receive workers' compensation for injuries or death while on the job. Health Minister Bud Sherman and Community Services Minister George Minaker announced coverage now applies to home care, mental health, child and family services, public health nursing and vocational rehabilitation volunteers, aligning them with paid workers. Previously volunteers in correctional programs and students at Brandon and Selkirk centres also received coverage.
