Chimo Day Draws Large Crowd Despite Showers
A Saturday of Chimo Day drew about 1000 attendees as events spanned Main Street and Village Square. Dignitaries Lorne Caldwell Elmer Houck and M L A Walter Weir spoke read proclamations and released a centennial balloon. Local groups hosted races dances beard judging fiddlers and pony rides, with Bill Dick and Mrs H W Whyman named King and Queen. The WaA guest book recorded over 800 signatures as a Chimo edition was sold by the High School Student Council.

Local Pioneer Groups Plan Parade and Museum Work
Local Pioneer Club Meet Hamida and District Pioneer Club met in the Community Room July 6 to plan for the parade Fair Day July 23 at 9 30 am. Wally Vann of Winnipeg will display a new working model Case Steam Engine at the Fair. After the meeting the group moved to the Museum and placed signs on the door and west end of the building. Open Sundays from 25 pm to 7 9 pm. Bring Centennial visitors to the Museum.

Long Service Scroll Presented at Hamiota Post Office
Miss M. E. ONeill received a testimonial scroll signed by the postmaster general Eric Kierans for 29 years of service from 1941 to June 30, 1970. The ceremony in Hamiota included F J Bileski presenting the scroll with Mr Coombs and Mrs Arm strong in attendance. Deputy postmaster general F A Faguy sent a personal letter of thanks and congratulations.

McConnell 4H Beef Club Holds Achievement Day
The 4-H News Corner covers the McConnell Show and Sale on June 27 1970 at McConnell Show grounds. Calves shown totaled 26 of 27 tagged with Carol Parker winning champion and Robbie McConnell reserve. judges included Jim Daniels of Kenton. Awards span jr and senior showmanship, grooming, weight gain contest, inter club placings, and a first commercial carcass competition with Brandon visit June 30.

Birdtail River School Division Holds Regular Meeting
The Birdtail River School Division No. 38 convened at Shoal Lake on July 9 1970 at 8 p.m. Trustees adopted minutes from June 25 and approved reports and financials. They accepted a superintendent report building committee notes and the 6/70 financial statement and authorized transportation allowance and a salary agreement with the Manitoba Teachers Society. The meeting adjourned at 11:30 p.m. and will reconvene July 23 at Crandall.

Hill Sunley Family Reunion Held at Miniota Sports Grounds
A hot summer day marked the twenty fifth Hill Sunley reunion at Miniota Sports grounds. A total of 132 members and 4 visitors attended from across Saskatchewan Manitoba and Ontario. Jim and Gloria Bell from Calgary arrived the farthest. The event featured a ball game social time and a 120-person supper with tributes to long serving president Ernie Sunley and secretary treasurer Mrs Archie Hill.
