All Star Charity Hockey Game Set in Hamiota Rink

Ian Lobban previews the All Star match between the Hamiota Juveniles and the Hamiota All Stars on February 1 at 8 p.m. Proceeds go to the March of Dimes. Expected lineup changes include veterans and newcomers. New rules raise dressed players to 35, imports limited to 200 miles, and referees from the Montreal blind institute.

Obituary for John Johnson of Hamiota Dies at 81

John Johnson aged 81 died at his home in Hamiota on January 19, 1958. Born March 1, 1876 near Elmerston Ontario he moved to Manitoba in 1889 settling in the Oakner district. He married Lucy Clendening of Kenton in 1904 and farmed near Calner for many years before living in Hamiota the last 13 years. Survived by widow three daughters three granddaughters and two great grandsons. Funeral at Hamiota United Church January 22 conducted by Rev K H Moffatt. Pallbearers named. Interment in family plot at Hamiota Cemetery.

Afternoon Auxiliary Meets at United Church Parlor

The Afternoon Auxiliary of the W. M. S. met in the United Church Parlor on Tuesday January 1st. Rev. K. H. Moffatt installed officers for the coming year including President Mrs. B. Thomson and Past President Mrs. J. J. Ward. Reports from Literature and Christian Citizenship Secretaries and gratifying Treasurer’s notes followed. World Day of Prayer announced for February 21st at the Pentecostal Church.
