Manitoba moves to metric building standards provincewide
Public Works Minister Russell Doern announced all provincial departments and agencies will adopt metric measurements for tendered building projects after January 1, 1978. The shift, backed by the Winnipeg Builder's Exchange and the Canadian Construction Association, aligns with a 1976 federal provincial agreement and will be included in the Manitoba Building Code set for April 1. The first major project is expected to be the provincial judges' courts building in downtown Winnipeg.
