Legion Auxiliary Meet in Hamiota with 16 Members
On January 24 the Ladies Legion met in the Community Room with 16 members present. Roll Call and November minutes were read. Transfers included Mrs L White and Mrs N Knight from Oak River Auxiliary to Hamiota. A December Christmas party with Bingo was enjoyed. Winners of two fruit cakes were Mrs Mary McKeen Miniota and Mrs G White Hamiota. Rally planned for April at Hamiota. Adjournment followed by lunch and social hour.

Bands to Attend Westman Band Clinic and Events
The Hamiota Senior Band and Birtle Concert Band will join the Westman Band Clinic at Vincent High School in February with about five hundred students from the region. The Birtle stage band is invited to Neelin High School in Brandon in spring, and the combined bands plan the Neepawa Festival at end of April and possibly a Brandon Travellers Parade march in mid June along with an April concert.

Uskiw Outlines Powers of Proposed Beef Board
Manitoba Agriculture Minister Sam Uskiw lays out powers and duties for a potential beef producers marketing board. If the referendum passes, the board would act as selling agency, pool prices to ensure equal pay for cattle of the same quality, set a levy, and investigate complaints while avoiding production quotas. It would require nine elected directors and would be funded by a levy on slaughter cattle and calves.

Heart Fund Campaign In Hamiota February
Mrs Mae Roberts chair of the International Order of Foresters leads a Heart Fund drive in Hamiota in February. Last year Manitoba Heart Foundation received 1300 dollars for heart and stroke research and services. Volunteers will distribute material on warning signs of heart attack and stroke and emergency actions. If away, mail a contribution in the envelope left in mailboxes. The heart it saves may be your own.

Lismer Appointed Provincial Judge
The Hon. Howard Pawley announced Theodore J. Lismer Q.C. as judge in Provincial Judges' Court Criminal Division effective immediately. Lismer succeeds Wallace Darichuk who became a county court judge for the Dauphin District. Lismer previously chaired the Manitoba Police Commission and served as a part-time provincial judge.
