Winter blizzard claims Jim Allen during Manitoba voyage
Sixty years ago in January a brutal blizzard in the Riding Mountains stranded two loggers Jim Allen and Tom Saunders. Allen, who chose to continue home with his wood load, perished near the William Meakin homestead after losing the trail and kneeling in prayer. His death followed his service as Lavinia Union Sunday School superintendent and a widow later bore a son named Jim.
