The Multi ple Prescription Program took effect January 1 1990 to curb abuse of a restricted drug list. Health Minister Donald W Orchard said the system will track consumers and prescribers who misuse medicines. Registered prescribers must apply for a special prescription pad to issue listed drugs.
The school band cites a severe Florida frost cutting fresh oranges and grapefruit for their fundraiser. They will instead sell packaged spices for this year only while Manitoba Health funds start up costs and operating grants for a drug prescription monitoring program.
The community of Hamiota reports April penny collection for a new sports complex. Since late November volunteers have gathered 147.15 in savings with 113 in pennies to cover 824 feet of rink space. Residents are urged to continue depositing pennies at Armstrong Agencies or the rink and to phone Mavis Smith with questions.
A local reflection warns that by 2006 the aging village and shrinking rural population threaten jobs, housing, and community facilities. It urges foresight and planning to attract people and sustain the district’s businesses, schools, and services.
Portage la Prairie reports the province handed over the keys to Manitoba's second ALERT Mobile to the RCMP as part of a drive to curb impaired driving. In a ceremony Ed Connery presented the vehicle to Assistant Commissioner Dale Henry while Jim McCrae praised deterrence. The unit will support the CHECK STOP program outside Winnipeg with random breathalyzer checks and three month licence suspensions for refusals or failures.
More than 25 Lions riders will tour a 500 mile route in Manitoba's Sixth Annual Journey For Light starting January 18 from The Pas with stops at Roblin Swan River and Birtle. The trek ends in Winnipeg for pledges on the Lions Telethon January 21. Proceeds fund sight conservation and donation awareness through equipment, medical standards, and public outreach.
