RCMP forms Area Crime Prevention Committee in Hamiota region
The Hamiota RCMP detachment will form an Area Crime Prevention Committee with members from Hamiota Woodworth Miniota and Birdtail River School Division to improve communication and community policing. Corporal Gerry Poole says the panel will include RCMP and local professionals and meet regularly, with the initial meeting planned before the end of January.

Ability Fund Month Aids Manitobans With Disabilities
January marks Ability Fund Month in Manitoba as the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities runs a province wide campaign. The group backs over 7 000 adults with physical disabilities including cerebral palsy muscular dystrophy and head injuries with services and assistive devices to help them lead independent, productive lives. The society maintains offices in Brandon Dauphin Thompson Steinbach and Winnipeg to deliver services locally and distributes wheelchairs crutches and canes to thousands to improve mobility.

The Children s Aid weekend in 1989 was a tremendous success thanks to the people of Hamiota and District. Special thanks go to the concert committee and all donors bidders and volunteers including Jack Curry and the Decker Hutterite Colony. Fred Oakley won the Terry McLean plate. $3050 was raised for Child and Family Services of Western Manitoba in Brandon.

Westman Winter Games kickoff with 12 bantam hockey 12 junior co ed curling and 12 adult mixed volleyball teams at Virden January 12 14. Opening ceremonies January 13 at 11 00 a m at the Virden arena. Minnedosa hosts six mens basketball teams four youth co ed broomball teams and alpine ski races at Ski Valley January 13 9 00 a m. Next weekend Birtle hosts gymnastic meet about 50 gymnasts on January 20.
