UCW Annual Meeting In Oak River Publicized

The UCW held its annual meeting January 6 in the church with 18 in attendance. Minutes approved, treasurer reports show 1975 balance 805.32, receipts 1,843.09, expenditures 2,007.81, leaving 640.60. Reports from committees were favorable and outreach included 50 personal cards and shipments to Norway House. Live Love projects chosen and officers for 1976 named.

Decorated walking stick recalls military life

Dave Brims cherishs a walking stick adorned with 40 badges and uniform buttons from battles like Vimy Ridge and Ypres. A Canadian Army engineer and former RCMP officer born in Dundee, Scotland, he recounts emigrating to Edmonton in 1907 and a life spent across prairie Canada and public service. Now 85, he lives near Nanaimo and cherishes the stick as a memory of wartime, policing, and decades of service.

Annual W I Meeting at McConnell Home

The Annual W I meeting held January 6 at Mrs Nora McConnell's home included six members with one new arrival. Officers were re elected by acclamation and 1976 fees paid. The group approved donations and a March dinner plus a McConnell 4 H Club prize fund. Quilt blocks due February 3 at Mrs Newton's.

The Women In Institute held its annual meeting in Hamiota on January 6 with 19 members present. The 2 pm meeting time was set for winter months, officers were reappointed with minor changes, and next gathering is February 3 at 2 pm.

U C W Meeting Recaps 1976 Projects and Plans

HAMIOTA The annual U C W meeting on January 8 in the choir room drew 18 members. Mrs M Dixon chaired. Unit One’s Mrs H Brooks led worship. A funds request to send two people to P C T C was approved. World Day of Prayer planned for early March at the Pentecostal Church. Volunteers Lynas and Dixon to plan service. A spring thrift sale was approved for April. Live Love Projects for 76 include Zambia agricultural missions and Winnipeg Indian missions. Sunday School projects include overseas water supply development and Northland Presbytery Indian missions.
