Study Underway of Manitoba Grey Owl
Manitoba biologists from Renewable Resources and Transportation Services are trapping and banding great grey owls to learn their distribution and movement. Sightings have increased near Belair Agassiz and Sandilands forests. Dr Bob Nero notes little known ecology but suggests a good nesting season may drive public sightings. The owl uses dense downy feathers for warmth and has a wingspan about five feet, comparable to a male golden eagle.
