On December 26 1977 Hamiota Community honored Postmaster F J Jack Coombs on his retirement after 27 years at the Hamiota Post Office. About 190 guests attended at the Community Centre with remarks from Mayor Harold McLaren and zone Postmaster J C Anderson.

Events included a macrame owl raffle ticket sale, a card party and dance, a cystic fibrosis fundraiser netting $365, and a year-end pot luck with costume prizes. They sponsor a student for the United Nations Seminar in New York and plan officer installation on January 16 1978.

Eight Junior Girls rinks played double knockout in Hamiota with teams from Hamiota Strathclair Rivers Erickson Oak River and Binscarth. Oak River skipped by Shelley Haggarty won the B side final over Hamiota skip Lynn McDonald. Binscarth defeated Oak River in the A side semi final, earning a spot in the Provincial play offs at Swan River on January 20 1978.
