Manitoba Raises Minimum Wage and Ends Youth Differential
Manitoba Labour Minister Al Mackling announced staged increases to the provincial minimum wage effective April 1 1987 raising the general rate from 4.30 to 4.50 and later to 4.70 by September 1 1987 with the youth rate rising from 3.85 to 4.20 and phasing out by April 1 1988. The plan also removes discriminatory language from Regulation E110 R1 addressing safety transport for workers starting or ending between midnight and six am. This aims to ease cost of living pressures and ensure fairer treatment for young workers while maintaining employer flexibility.

Manitoba Housing Minister announces new interest payable on tenants security deposits will be 42 percent effective January 1 1987 down from 6 percent current rate is based on semi annual market review.
