Bookmobile Library Service Set for Hamiota Area

The Hamiota area will receive a bookmobile service from January 7 offering more than 2,500 books for adults and children. It operates 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with memberships available to RM and Village residents at no direct charge.

2 000 Cattlemen Join Manitoba Beef Plan

More than 2,000 cattlemen have joined the Manitoba Beef Plan. Agriculture Minister Bill Uruski notes larger cow calf producers are signing, with an average provincial herd of 32 cows. Those contracting before December 31 qualify for retroactive marketing benefits.

Province Helps Produce Flood Hydrology Guide

Manitoba will contribute to a flood hydrology guide led by Natural Resources Minister Al Mackling. The program, a collaboration with environmental ministers and the National Research Council, reviews current practices and aims to set consistent standards for data application and flood frequency. Estimated cost is $125,000 under a 1968 CCREM funding formula.

Shilo Pic-A-Day Bonspiel marks 25th anniversary and entries

The Shilo Curling Committee invites curlers to the 25th Spring Invitational Bonspiel known as Pic-A-Day. Since 1959, it has grown to include 192 rinks across Manitoba and beyond, with entry dates March 25 to April 3, 1983, and cash prizes replacing cups.

Lenore W.I. Meet Sees Community Christmas Event

The Lenore W I group held a Community Christmas night with a pot luck supper, adult card games, children’s activities in the basement, and skating. Innes Hodson hosted as M C. Winners included Mrs. Dennis Maitland, Mrs. M. Logan, Doug Draper, and Howard Norck. Santa gave gifts and oranges to children before leaving with a merry Christmas wish.
