Miniota Spring Music Festival 1984 Details

Miniota hosts a four day music festival from April 30 to May 3 with piano organ choir and other sessions. Swift Current Fiddlers Visit Hamiota for Centennial Event

The Swift Current Old Timers Fiddlers tour Manitoba in 1984 and are invited to Hamiota as a centennial event on Tuesday June 12. They perform at the Personal Care Home in the afternoon and play for a town dance 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. The group, about 27 senior musicians, repertoire includes waltzes, polka, two step, and old time dances. Tickets for the dance are sold in advance by local residents.

Westman Senior Citizen's Council Meets in Brandon

The Westman Senior Citizen's Council gathered February 13 1984 in the Provincial Building Brandon with 64 seniors from 34 clubs. Hamiota clubs were represented by John and Gert Rankin. The Games Committee reported regional finals in April at various Westman locations and local district playoffs on earlier dates.

History book now a reality in Hamiota

The Centennial History Book Committee met on February 8 in the community room and announced that Grains of the Century is fast becoming a reality. Orders are open with a $20 deposit per copy and a 10 percent savings if ordered by February 29. The 81/2 by 11 inch book will run 750 pages with 725 photos.

Crandall Post Office Celebrates Centennial

Crandall marks 100 years of regular mail service on March 1 1984 with a plaque presentation to postmistress Mrs Darlene Long at 2 00 p.m. cake and coffee to follow. The brief history recalls the Post Office origins in 1884 with Thos Hamilton and moves through several postmasters and locations along Assiniboine Avenue and surrounding streets.

Agreement reached with optometrists in Manitoba

Health Minister Larry Dejardins announced a 2.74 percent rise in insured optometric fees for April 1 1983 to March 31 1984. Fees will reach 98 percent of ophthalmologist rates, maintaining prior fee relationships. The one year cost is estimated at 100 000 dollars.

Miniota Merry 4-Hers Meet at Miniota School

The Miniota Merry 4-Hers met February 13 at the Miniota School. Members suggested entrants for the Slogan Contest and reviewed a bonspiel social report from January 26. Two winning rinks were honored, speeches were handed in for judging, and talks on uniform changes and potential community projects were discussed. The group plans an April 24 achievement event and an April 2 district talks session at 7:30 p.m. with invitations issued.
