The Hamiota United Church holds Lent services led by Rev. R. W. K. Elliott on March 2 1941. The first service at 11 p.m. titled The Meaning of Lent followed by a Sunday School at 12 10 p.m. and an evening talk at 7 p.m. The title for the 7 p.m. session is The First Word from The Cross and Sin.
The Hamiota bonspiel starts Monday March 3 with five games guaranteed per entry. Entry fee is 50 cents per man for club members 1.00 for non members and visiting club members enter free with early closing set for Saturday March 1st at 5 p.m.
A World Day of Prayer service formed by women will be held Friday February 28 at 3 p.m. at Christ Church Hamiota. The notice invites all women to join and suggests a Thursday preparation service at 7:30 to 7:45 p.m. for prayers for the Empire Dominion and armed forces.
A Canada wide appeal urges citizens to lend money through War Savings Certificates to support democracy. The notice includes a call to action, with local contact details and references to community fundraising and scrap metal drives. Obituaries, local notices, and various community activities from Hamiota, Manitoba are interwoven, including a death notice in England and local wartime support efforts.
Mrs. E W McConnell aged 74 died February 19 1941 at her Hamiota residence after a two week illness. Born October 28 1866 at Kincardine Ontario she moved with family to Manitoba in 1879 later living in Strathclair Shoal Lake and Fair View Farm. She married E W McConnell July 12 1888 and celebrated a Golden Wedding in 1938. Survived by husband three sons Alvin Roy Milton and three daughters Thos J Strachan Luther Johnston and Flossie A with fourteen grandchildren. Funeral held February 21 at Hamiota United Church with interment in Hamiota Cemetery.
